I was jumping up and down for joy on Monday afternoon when I received this email in my inbox from Carrie Smith, blogger for The Write Life:
“Our 100 Best Websites for Writers post is now live, and we’ve included your website in our list! You can check it out on The Write Life. Thanks so much for sharing such valuable information!”
I’ve said this before, and if you are a regular reader of mine, it will sound familiar. But it is worth saying it again (and again and again):
I have built two successful businesses, using blogging as the primary platform for each. There are those that have told me I am crazy, that blogging is a waste of time, and I could better spend my time elsewhere. But, I begged to differ. My coaching practice is almost at full-capacity, I’ve spent no money on advertising (minus the occasional Facebook ad to test the waters), the numbers on Google Analytics don’t lie, and my wonderful community is growing. I stuck to my guns!
Do you want a blog that does all of this AND more? (Like lands you radio interviews, guest blogging gigs, and other opportunities which spice up your writing life?)
Here are my top 3 tips for building a blog that will brand you as an expert:
- Provide quality content, consistently. That might be 3 times a week or 4 times a month. But decided on the same day and time and stick with it!
- Know your audience. What does your audience want to know, need to know? And if you are not sure, use the power of social media to ask them — they will tell you.
- Map out your blogging strategy. Track your metrics. Make changes as necessary – but whatever you do, make sure you have a solid blogging strategy in place.
